ትልልቅ ፊደላት (capital letters)
እንግሊዝኛ ትልልቅና ትናንሽ ፊደላት አሉት፤ የግዕዝ ፊደል የለውም። ትልልቅ ፊደላት የዓረፍተ ነገርን መጀመሪያ፣ I የሚለውን ቃል፣ እና የተወሰኑ ሰዎችን፣ ቦታዎችንና ነገሮችን ስም ያመለክታሉ።
ትልቅ ፊደል መቼ ይገባል
የግዕዝ ፊደል ትልቅ ፊደል ስለሌለው ይህ ለአማርኛ ተናጋሪዎች አዲስ ልማድ ነው። ዋናው ደንብ፦ ለዓረፍተ ነገሩ የመጀመሪያ ቃል፣ ለ I፣ እና ለአንድ የተወሰነ ሰው፣ ቦታ፣ ቡድን፣ ቀን ወይም ነገር ስም ትልቅ ፊደል። አጠቃላይ ቃል በትንሽ ፊደል ይቀራል፦ a city ግን Las Vegas፤ a doctor ግን Dr. Bekele።

- I ሁልጊዜ ትልቅ ነው፣ በዓረፍተ ነገር መካከልም፦ My wife and I went።
- በእንግሊዝኛ ቋንቋዎችና ዜግነቶች ሁልጊዜ በትልቅ ፊደል ይጀምራሉ፦ I speak Amharic። She is Eritrean።
- በርዕስ ውስጥ ዋና ቃላትን በትልቅ ፊደል ይጀምሩ፤ ትናንሽ ቃላት (a, the, and, of, in, to) መጀመሪያ ካልመጡ በትንሽ ይቀራሉ።

በትልቅ ፊደል የማይጀምሩት
ብዙ ተማሪዎች ከሚገባው በላይ ትልቅ ፊደል ይጠቀማሉ፣ በተለይ ጠቃሚ የሚመስሉ ቃላትን። ወቅቶች፣ አጠቃላይ የሥራ መጠሪያዎች፣ የትምህርት ዓይነቶች (ከቋንቋ በስተቀር)፣ አቅጣጫዎችና ተራ ስሞች በትንሽ ፊደል ይቀራሉ። መጠሪያ ከስም በፊት ካልሆነ በትንሽ ይቀራል፦ the doctor, the president። የቤተሰብ ቃል ከ my ጋር ትንሽ ነው፦ my mom፤ ግን እንደ ስሟ ሲጠቀሙበት Mom።

- ወቅቶች በፍጹም በትልቅ ፊደል አይጀምሩም፦ in the summer (Monday እና June ግን ይጀምራሉ)።
- ቃሉ ጠቃሚ ስለሆነ ብቻ በትልቅ አይጀምሩት፦ I need a job (a Job አይደለም)።
- በኢሜይል ወይም በመልዕክት ሙሉ ዓረፍተ ነገርን በትልልቅ ፊደላት አይጻፉ፤ እንደ መጮህ ይነበባል።
