Mock interview
Questions at random, the way the officer asks them. It stops when you pass or can no longer pass.
Start a mock interview Which test do you take?
It depends on the day you filed your N-400, not the day of your interview.
Filed before 20 October 2025 The 2008 test: the officer asks up to 10 questions from a list of 100. Six right passes.
Filed on or after 20 October 2025 The 2025 test: up to 20 questions from a list of 128. Twelve right passes; the officer stops at 12 right or 9 wrong.
The English test The same for everybody. Your speaking is judged during the interview itself. For reading and writing the officer gives up to three sentences each; one done right passes.
Older applicants 65 or older with 20 years as a green-card holder: a shorter test, 10 questions from a special list of 20, and 6 right passes. 50 with 20 years, or 55 with 15: no English test, and you may take the civics test in Amharic with an interpreter. Age counts on the day you file. The English questions and answers are USCIS's own, copied October 20, 2026. The Amharic is Sefer's and is still being checked.
This is practice for the test, not legal advice. Whether you qualify, a past arrest, travel or waiting times: ask an immigration lawyer or a DOJ-accredited representative.
