Ethiopian embassy services, from here

Renewing an Ethiopian passport, the Origin ID (yellow card), a power of attorney for something back home, getting a US paper accepted in Ethiopia, and taking a loved one home for burial — what the embassy needs, step by step, from Las Vegas or Atlanta.

Everything here was read from the embassy's and the Ethiopian government's own pages on the date shown. Fees change and pages move: call the line given before you pay or post anything. Sefer is not the embassy and cannot file for you.

Before you start

Five things people get wrong before anything else.

There is one Ethiopian mission in the United States

The embassy in Washington, D.C. The consulates in Los Angeles and Saint Paul closed in 2021. Nevada and Georgia are both served by Washington, and there is no office to walk into in Las Vegas or Atlanta.

Most services are now done through two apps

Passports and the Origin ID: the Digital Invea app (App Store and Google Play). Power of attorney and document authentication: the Digital MoFA app — since 2 April 2026 the embassy no longer takes these in person. Both are the official channels; the embassy's site links to them.

The embassy takes money orders only

For anything paid at the embassy: a money order payable to the Ethiopian Embassy. No cash, no cheques, no cards. In the apps you pay by card inside the app.

Nobody needs an “agent”

People in the community sell help with these forms. The forms are free; the only fees are the embassy's and the apps'. Anyone who asks for your original passport to “process it for you” is a risk, not a service. See Scam alerts.

Why most fees are not printed here

The embassy's pages state the fee for a power of attorney and for authentication, and Ethiopia's immigration service states the Origin ID fee. The passport fee in dollars is not published on a page we could check, so this page says to ask rather than print a number from a forum.
