Ethiopian embassy services, from here
Renewing an Ethiopian passport, the Origin ID (yellow card), a power of attorney for something back home, getting a US paper accepted in Ethiopia, and taking a loved one home for burial — what the embassy needs, step by step, from Las Vegas or Atlanta.
Tax number, bank, moving back
The smaller things the embassy's community page covers.
An Ethiopian tax number (TIN) from here
Anyone who needs a TIN in Ethiopia — to own property, run a business or open some accounts — without flying there.
What you need
- The embassy's registration form, with a colour passport photo glued on.
- Fingerprints taken in black ink at a police station or other law-enforcement office, on the embassy's fingerprint form.
- ID copies: US passport plus Origin ID if you changed nationality; Ethiopian passport plus green card if you did not.
- A prepaid return envelope.
How it goes
- In person at the embassy in business hours, or by mail to the embassy with everything above.
- Keep the receipt. Your representative in Ethiopia must follow up with the revenue authority and collect the card in Addis Ababa; they will not contact you.
- The fee
- No fee is listed on the embassy's page.

What you need
- The bank's own form (the embassy posts the forms for the Commercial Bank of Ethiopia, Dashen, Awash and Abyssinia) and one passport-size photo.
How it goes
- Download the form from the embassy's community page, fill it in, and follow the bank's instructions; the embassy can witness it.
- The fee
- Set by the bank.
